My new article on Tiny Buddha: The Courage to Follow Your Creative Genius
“There are moments in our lives, there are moments in a day, when we seem to see beyond the usual. Such are the moments of our greatest happiness. Such are the moments of our greatest wisdom.”
~Robert Henri, The Art Spirit
In my twenties, I was chasing success in Chicago—living in a vibrant city, pursuing a Ph.D., and feeling the weight of expectations to achieve. Yet, when I secluded myself to focus on writing and advancing my career, I felt lifeless. The work was stiff, and I was miserable.
So, I made a radical choice: I moved to rural Montana.
The wilderness didn’t offer accolades, but it gave me space—space to explore, try new things, and reconnect with myself. I became self-reliant, discovering passions I never knew I had, from river rafting to playing bass guitar. I let go of rigid beliefs, embraced new perspectives, and stepped into unexpected roles. Most importantly, I found freedom from the roles and expectations that had defined me.
When we’re stuck, it’s often because we’re clinging to what feels logical or safe. But true creative genius thrives when we let go and create space for the unexpected. It leads us to new worlds and possibilities that we couldn’t see before.
If you’re feeling blocked, step back. Trust your creative genius to lead you toward the unexpected. Sometimes, the wisest path isn’t the logical one—it’s the one that sets your heart free.
It takes courage to follow a creative path. It takes fortitude to go against the norm and follow an inner call. It takes resourcefulness to reassure parents and well-meaning friends & colleagues that you’re not crazy or out of your mind. But when we follow the nudges that don’t make any sense, that’s when whole worlds open up. Click here to read the article.
I’m SO excited to be part of the Tiny Buddha tribe. ✨
