In an impossible conflict, find the third space
When you’re in a no-win situation—like being caught in the middle of a disagreement between your husband and daughter, or trying to balance conflicting demands from clients and your boss—it might feel like there’s no solution. But there actually is a way forward.
You can shift into third space.
Third space is a place we often don’t realize exists until we’re faced with a situation where all rational options seem blocked. It’s a creative and expansive realm that emerges when we’re willing to step beyond the binary of opposing sides.
Our deepest conflicts present an opportunity to discover a creative response—the “third space” that doesn’t just compromise but embraces both sides, offering a fresh solution or perspective that transcends the original conflict.
The creative process thrives on these challenges. The deep creative within us longs to move—not through force, but in the most expansive and life-giving way possible.
