Steve Jobs: “Art and beauty really do matter”
In 2011, Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner honored Steve Jobs with an in-depth cover story. Wenner wrote:
“He knew in his soul that how a thing looked and felt was part of the inherent truth and importance and honesty of the thing itself… [he believed] that art and beauty really do matter, and that people will respond to them if they are offered.”
Jobs believed that consumers would respect a strong aesthetic vision, even if it wasn’t what they thought they wanted. His only college course that he ever described as significant was a calligraphy class, which deeply influenced his understanding of aesthetics and beauty.
Perhaps a love of art and beauty is not just a preference but a catalyst for revolution—a foundation for real and lasting change.
